Now police have two people in custody who they are confident were involved in the crime.
"They had three tags [evidence markers] with numbers on them right there." Ulysses Morgan lives just feet from where 19-year-old Carnell Saintville was gunned down early Sunday morning and woke up to gunshots.
"It was one and then it was three after that, consecutively," said Morgan. "It was kind of frightening that it happened right in front of my house and frightening for my family as well. It's disturbing sometimes."
A friend drove Saintville the short two miles to Crisp Regional, but he had already passed away.
Now two days later, Zankee Newsome and Arianna Hughes are in jail, charged with murder. "The persons involved that have been arrested, there's no doubt that they had involvement in the crime itself," said Detective Andrew Roufs with the Cordele Police Department.
Newsome was arrested in Tampa, while Hughes was the unnamed suspect arrested Sunday. The shooting does not appear to be gang related right now, but not much has been released other than the fact that it was a targeted crime.
"It is person specific. This is not a random incident. This was intentional," said Roufs.
Morgan and others in the West Cordele neighborhood shaken by this crime are once again thankful to be unharmed.
"Hopefully it doesn't happen again," said Morgan.
Detective Roufs says they are continuing to interview folks and more arrests are possible, but he adds that making these two arrests so quickly is instrumental in their investigation. Newsome is still in Tampa awaiting extradition on his charges.
