SUMTER CO., GA (WALB) - Law enforcement wasn't sure of the owners of several marijuana plants, but now two suspects are now in custody, accused of growing marijuana in Sumter County.
Authorities say Mayda Jam, 70, and Carlos Rodriquez, 54, managed a home where the more than 150 plants were being grown.
The plants were growing inside and outside in the sophisticated operation. Deputies say the bust makes a huge dent in the supply chain.
"Something like this also shows that it's illegal, and therefore we will do whatever necessary to catch and hold these individuals accountable for their illegal actions," said Sumter County Sheriff's Colonel Eric Bryant.
Colonel Bryant says the case will be handled on the federal level and each will have to appear before a federal judge for a bond.
