ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Albany Police made an arrest in a stabbing at Neil Food Mart on Jewel Street and Philema Road, which happened on Sunday August 15.

Lester Jerome Richardson, age 42, has been charged with Armed Robbery and Aggravated Assault for stabbing Rajendran Karunagath. Richardson, who took off in a white Ford pickup, was arrested on August 25.

Police responded to the area around 1:45 p.m. that day, and were told by witnesses that a man dressed in all black came into the store, and stabbed Karunagath.

"The only way we are going to make this city and county safe is that we got to have the community buy in.  And try to get these criminals off the streets before they harm someone, or they kill someone," said Jon Howard, Ward I Albany City Commissioner.

The store owner says that Karunagath is recovering at home from his wounds.
