Warden encourages adoption at Mitchell County Animal Shelter

MITCHELL CO., GA (WALB) -

The Mitchell County Animal Control says their seeing an increasing number of stray animals.

Today a vet euthanized 25 dogs and some cats who have been in their facility since late July.
Two owners came to pick up their dogs today, but eight remain in the shelter.
They've picked up over 200 dogs between January and July.
They're asking the community to adopt animals or for owners to come pick up their pets.

"We encourage people to come and adopt them, come get them. We don't have the facility to hold them and house them for a long time, so we want them to come pick them up, adopt them, and we encourage that,” said Bill Terry, Mitchell County Correctional Institute Warden.

It cost $20 to adopt an animal. You can adopt an animal by calling the Mitchell County Correctional Institute at 336-2045.
