ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

City Commissioners are looking to build a new $1 million city swimming pool and splash park in East Albany.

And the City Manager says she wants it open next summer.

The pool and splash park would be built next to the Thornton Community Center just off East Oglethorpe Boulevard.

City Manager Sharon Subadan wants a facility that fits the needs of the community.

"We'll very specifically lay out what will go where," Subadan said. "We also want to take this to the community to make sure that if there is any input, that they give it to us before we move forward with building the project."

The planning would also call for improvements to the old Thornton Gym and recreation center.

The East Albany swimming pool and splash park was listed under a SPLOST special project several years ago.
