Drug Unit Commander search in progress

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Work is underway hiring the permanent new commander for the Albany Dougherty Drug Unit.

The Drug Unit Board has selected three top candidates from a nationwide talent search, and Albany Police Chief Michael Persley says negotiations have already begun with the top candidate.

The Board said they are seeking experience in the replacement for Major Bill Berry, who commanded the Drug Unit for the last ten years.

"We are looking for previous drug experience, running a unit.  Also extensive management and supervisor experience," said Chief Michael Persley.

The Drug Unit board is chaired by Sheriff Kevin Sproul, with Albany Police Chief Michael Persley, Dougherty County Police Chief Jackie Battle, and District Attorney Greg Edwards on the board.
