CRISP CO., GA (WALB) - Sheriff Billy Hancock is visiting area schools to encourage interactions between law enforcement and citizens. Sheriff Hancock visited one second grade class because a student called him 'his hero'.
He says students should run to law enforcement, not away from them. Seeing the positive impact his office has is the highlight of his job.
"When a second grader, at their age, sees law enforcement as a positive role and they want to interact with us, that's what I'm here for. That's what this job is all about," said Sheriff Hancock.
Sheriff Hancock plans to continue visiting the schools in the future.
