ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Albany State University is starting off the year with "irregularities" at the financial aid office.
But officials will not tell us exactly what that means.
They released a statement that said they were investigating to see if any "wrongdoing" has taken place.
But they said it will not interfere with students getting their financial aid.
They would not say if anyone had been fired or suspended in relation to the issue.
The statement issued by Albany State University:
Last week, we received a report of irregularities in our financial aid office. We have communicated with the proper authorities and have launched an immediate, complete and thorough investigation, which is still under way.
If our investigation reveals wrongdoing, we will respond swiftly and appropriately to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
We are committed to our responsibility to our students and the community, and have and will continue to move quickly and decisively to investigate and resolve this matter. This investigation will not interfere with student financial aid awards.
As this investigation is ongoing, we are not able to comment further.
