ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The American Red Cross is hosting an 'end of summer blood drive party' from 1:00 until 5:00 today at Porterfield Methodist Church.
Organizers hope you will give hope to patients in need, by donating blood.
Summer can be among the most challenging times of the year to collect enough blood, yet the need doesn't take a summer break. The Red Cross is facing a looming shortage of the most needed blood types, resulting in an urgent need for eligible donors with O negative, B negative and A negative blood to give now to prevent an emergency situation.
"Donated blood is perishable and must be constantly replenished to keep up with the demand," said Mario Sedlock, director of donor recruitment for the Alabama and Central Gulf Coast and Southern Blood Services Regions. "This special blood drive is a way for the Red Cross to show appreciation to our dedicated donors and help patients."
Porterfield Methodist Church is located at 2200 Dawson Road, in Albany.
