DONALSONVILLE, GA (WALB) -

DanTony Swinson, 50, is scheduled to go on trial today for a double murder prosecutors say he committed in July of 2013. Jury selection began Monday morning.

The murder occurred in Donalsonville, but Swinson was arrested was arrested in Waycross, for the murders of Eliace Marie Smith, 49, and Heber Jettie Bennett, Jr., 64, both of Donalsonville.

Swinson faces two counts of murder,  and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The Seminole County Sheriff's Office requested the assistance of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation in reference to a death investigation where two bodies had been found on Northwood Drive, in Donalsonville, near Lake Seminole.

The GBI responded and found that Smith and Bennett had been found dead with apparent gunshot wounds. An autopsy later confirmed the gunshot wounds as the cause of the deaths.

Smith and Bennett had recently moved to Seminole County from Ware County, which is what led investigators to Waycross.

The GBI, Ware County Sheriff's Office, Pierce County Sheriff's Office, Waycross P. D., Blackshear P. D., and the ATF based in Savannah jointly arrested DanTony Swinson in Waycross.
