As of 9:30 Tuesday morning, Georgia State Patrol was searching for the vehicle that hit and killed a person walking along U.S. 84 just East of CCC Rd. around 5:45 a.m. Tuesday.

We now know that they located the vehicle they believe was involved about 11:00AM. They have not released the name of the person who was driving it.

Trooper First Class Shane Copeland, with the GSP post in Valdosta, said 38 year old Johnny Eugene Roe was walking east in the westbound lane closet to the median when he was struck.

Copeland said Roe was walking to Naylor at the time, and may have actually been trying to cross the road when he was hit.

"It appears from the debris field and the evidence left on the scene that it was probably a silver 1999 to 2002 model Jeep Cherokee,"  Copeland said, describing the vehicle troopers believe hit and killed Rowe. "We know the Jeep immediately left the scene."

GSP's specialized Collision Reconstruction Team was working Tuesday morning to investigate the crash.

Copeland said it was not clear as of Tuesday morning what charges, if any, the driver of the vehicle that hit and killed Roe may face.
