DONALSONVILLE, GA (WALB) - A hand-crafted table top created by President Jimmy Carter and a South Georgia artist showcases its natural beauty.
Seminole County artist Steve Cross partnered with President Carter to create a table top out of a single sycamore log.
The piece is on display at the Donalsonville News Museum this month and will be auctioned in next year's Carter Center Silent Auction for Charity.
But Cross said it's what they noticed in the wood that makes this project so special.
"We found a unique feature, which was a heart grown into it," said Cross. "I saw it as a symbol of the heart that went into the project."
The table top will be mounted on a designer wrought iron frame by Trent Ty along with six hand-crafted sycamore chairs by Russ Filbeck.
Cross said he sends his thoughts and prayers to the Carter family following the President's cancer diagnosis.
He hopes to partner with the President on another project soon.
