ALBANY, GA (WALB) - An Appling County man is indicted on charges he stole hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of pecans from a Dougherty County plantation.
The grand jury indicted Gerald Purvis, Junior on three counts of failing to pay for natural products.
Dougherty County Sheriff's Investigators say he stole several truck loads of pecans from Pineknoll Pecan Properties in February and March 2013. The tons of nuts were worth more than $335,000.
"The indication was these pecans were at some point shipped out of the country, and they were sold overseas. That's probably what happened with them," said Greg Edwards Dougherty D.A.
Purvis could face up to 15 years in prison if he's convicted.
