ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Dougherty county school system could have a college and career academy soon.

The school board approved a plan to move forward last night.
The academy would partner dual enrollment students with Albany Tech, Albany State, and Darton State.
Officials are now in the process of working with different stakeholders, looking at potential locations, and finding funding.

"Now that the board has granted approval, the staff is really going to start putting foot to the fire and prepare some more paperwork,” said J.D. Sumner, DCSS Public Relations. Start talking about ideas on the actual facility what it's going to look like. How it's going to behave, things like that."

The Superintendent is considering using Southside Middle school for the academy and building another middle school in south Albany.
