Mowers stolen in fake credit scheme

DONALSONVILLE, GA (WALB) -

Two men are in the Seminole County Jail, after investigators say they tried to scam a John Deere dealership out of two mowers with fake credit card information.

Montrell Newton and Lorenzo Simpson were arrested Friday afternoon.

Employees at the Sunsouth dealership had been notified of the scam by a dealership in Early County.

Investigators say the suspects used a credit card that was declined, then used a fake bank representative to tell dealership employees to force the transaction through.

"This is the first time I've been familiar with this scam in this area. But talking with the credit card company, this is something that happens obviously a lot," said Investigator Dale Swanner of the Seminole County Sheriff's Office.

Swanner says the investigation is ongoing, and they anticipate more arrests.
