ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Dougherty County Schools will be recommending to the board to end the Albany Early College Dual Program.
The reasons are declining enrollment, and the departure from the original concept. Only 22 of over 300 students are enrolled.
Plus the Move On When You're Ready dual program is similar for grades 9 through 12. The recommendation is to phase out AEC within 2 years.
"To continue to sustain the early college in its present structure is not feasible, it's not economically wise and its wasteful," said Asst. Superintendent Ufot Inyang.
Inyang says they will use this year to transition the AEC students back to home school or stay in the program housed at Albany High.
