Fighting snakes catch farmer's attention

WILLACOOCHEE, GA (WALB) -

Video of two male rattlesnakes fighting in a field has gone viral. Britt Mizell said watching those two snakes twist around and around in a field in Jeff Davis County was crazy.

He's been told the two snakes were fighting over a female.

"They [were] looking like cobras. To begin with, I didn't know what to think," said Mizell.

The snakes fought for nearly a minute, but even after the fight was over and the snakes seemed to settle down, Mizell was still on edge

"Oh yeah, I still didn't want to get out of the truck there for awhile."

But he had to, as he had another field to scout. He was driving to the field when he noticed the reptilian war waging in the grass at the edge of the cotton field he had just come from.

"Going to the next field, that's when I realized, just sitting not far from the truck, two snakes right off from the cotton fields standing up probably two, three feet tall."

Since he posted the video to his Facebook page Monday, the video has been shared over 30,000 times and been viewed more than 1.3 million times.

He said he can't keep up with all of the people trying to add him as a friend on Facebook now.

Aside from making him extremely popular, the video has also reminded him to always be aware when walking through a cotton field, especially this field.

"Two, three years ago I killed a snake just as big if not bigger about two hundred yards from where I got them at."

It's a reminder that, like the video, he'll probably keep with him for quite a while.
