Three people in Valdosta were without a home Thursday after a house fire late Wednesday night.
Investigators said the fire at 209 Chester St. started in the kitchen around the stove, though as of Thursday an exact cause had not been determined.
Only one of the three residents was at home at the time the fire started and Valdosta Fire Marshal Cpt. James Clinkscales said he was lucky to get out of the burning house. "At the time of the fire, there was no detectors present so he was waken up by falling debris and some noise and so he was able to crawl out and escape the fire," Cpt. Clinkscales explained.
The Red Cross was assisting the three residents.
