ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Officials with Phoebe Putney Hospital say a drastic increase in the prices of some drugs is out of their control.
They blame changes in FDA rules that now allow single manufacturers to make certain generic drugs and force some older drugs to go through new drug applications.
"I expect them to continue to go up particularly with some of the new products on the market that are expensive items," said Pharmacy Manager Phil Barfield. "Hopefully with some of these former generic products the pricing will stabilize so that they will not continue to go up."
They said one medication had gone up in cost by almost 14,000 percent.
