Sumter County school changes going well

Donnie Smith, Sumter County Superintendent Donnie Smith, Sumter County Superintendent
SUMTER CO., GA (WALB) -

The Sumter County School Superintendent says changes in the system are going well during the first week of school.

Donnie Smith says even though the city and county school systems merged years ago students in the city and students in the county generally were still going to separate schools.

"We were still sort of operating as two different districts over these years but we made a decision the board and I with input from the community and other stake holders to go head and try to combine the districts officially move the kids into the same  schools so it's worked out well so far,” said Donnie Smith, Sumter County Superintendent.

Each school in the county now only includes two grade levels until high school.
