ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The cost of medical care at Phoebe Putney Hospital is going up.
The Phoebe Board of Directors approved a 4.2 percent rate hike Wednesday.
Phoebe officials said it's the first across the board fee increase in six years.
They noted that they managed to keep costs down as most other hospitals increased prices, even though the amount of charity care the hospital provides jumped 70 percent since 2010.
The higher prices will go into effect September 1st.
They said some imaging and surgical prices will decrease as they increase outpatient care.
"What we believe is that we need to be competitive in that. We need to give the best value to the consumer on outpatient basis," said Chief Operating Officer Joe Austin. "So that's where we are decreasing some prices and some prices are going up slightly."
The increase will also help provide the first employee raises in three years.
