Moody commander retires after 24 years in USAF

LOWNDES CO., GA (WALB) - Tuesday morning, Colonel Derek Oaks stepped down from his position as Commander of the 23rd Fighter Group, and Colonel Timothy Sumja assumed command.

Colonel comes to Moody from the Pentagon.

Colonel Oaks says the past two years have been some of the best of his career.

"23rd Fighter Group, I just want to say thank you. I've been honored to serve with you, to serve beside you and watch how amazing each of you is and how you do your job and how you tackle the challenges you faced," said the colonel.

Colonel Sumja will now serve as the Commander of the fighter group for the next two years.
