A Cordele man remains hospitalized after being shot four times outside his home Sunday night, and the search for the shooter continues.
One man who helped the victim says he just wants to keep his family safe. People here are concerned, but Cordele Police say they shouldn't worry about the gunman coming back.
Around 10:15 Sunday night, Kimberly Gaston heard gunshots outside her house. "I heard the gunshots and my husband was like what that was and I am like them gunshots. It's a real shock," she said.
Police say the shots were fired at Gaston's 54-year-old neighbor, Robert Ashley, who was sitting on his front porch. Officers happened to be nearby.
There are still blood stains on the grass where someone came up and shot Ashley. Gaston wonders why someone would do that. "I can't imagine that it be so close. He's a nice guy he don't bother nobody. I hardly see nobody coming towards his house or even having company like that."
Gaston just moved to the neighborhood a month ago. "I really want to move, I can't do this..."
Police are still trying to figure out the motive for the shooting, but they believe Ashley was targeted.
The victim was not able to give investigators a detailed description of the shooter. If you know anything about this crime, you are asked to call Cordele Police.
