Pelham officials look to bring historic building back to life

PELHAM, GA (WALB) -

Officials with the Pelham Chamber of Commerce are hoping to bring a historic structure back to life.

In the early 1900s J.L. Hand built this four-story structure.

It house a pharmacy, retail shops, and lots of other things.

Right now its used for area proms and other events.

Executive Director Kent Holtzclaw says it has a lot of potential.

“It operated throughout the family through the mid 70s then everyone had gone on with their lives through different paths. No one interested in the retail environment. It's an amazing structure. A beautiful building,” says Kent Holtzclaw, Executive Director of the Pelham Chamber of Commerce.

"We do have a lot of space so its unique in a small town to have four stories of space available," says Nichole Hilliard with the Pelham Chamber of Commerce.

The building is about 100 thousand square feet. Hilliard says it could be used for apartments or lots of other things.
