Less than a year ago TJ Barlow had to be cut out of a car after a severe accident. Saturday morning he was competing in the Brunson Martial arts tournament.
Out in Leesburg hundreds flooded the First Baptist Church of Leesburg gym to watch the many martial artists preform.
Barlow had his right leg recently amputated, and he competed along with plenty of athletes for the trophies and bragging rights.
He will be able to spar in his next tournament in a couple weeks and he is thankful for the work of Jim young at Albany Amputee Prosthetics Clinic and the training he received from the tournament organizer Graylon Brunson.
"He was happy to take me on as a challenge," said Barlow. "It was a challenge for me and it's a challenge for him. Plus it helped me better myself instead of feeling sorry for myself because I lost a limb."
He performed the kata and won the third place trophy.
