Thomasville Police said seat belts saved the lives of two drivers in a serious accident Friday afternoon.

Police responded within seconds to a two-car crash on Highway 19 around 12:20 p.m.

Officers said one driver turned in front of a car that was going south on the highway.

The car turning ended up on its side.

“All the windows were down,” said Officer Chris Mullins.  “If the gentleman didn't have his seat belt on, he probably would have been ejected and we would be working a serious injury or potentially a fatality, based on the damage to the vehicles.”

The driver of the pickup truck was charged with failure to yield while entering an intersection.
