Dog fighter pleads guilty

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - An Albany man pleads guilty in federal court to being involved with  a multi-state dog fighting ring

Oatha Hopkins of Albany plead guilty to one count of sponsoring and exhibiting a dog in an animal fighting venture.

Hopkins is the sixth person to plead guilty to being part of the 229 Boys Kennels, who prosecutors say ran dog fighting gambling shows in Georgia, Florida, and Alabama. 

Hopkins will be sentenced in October, and could face a maximum sentence of five years in prison.
