AMERICUS, GA (WALB) -

Major changes in Sumter County schools made tonight's school open house even more important than usual.

The school formerly known as Sumter County middle school is now Sumter County Intermediate. It includes just 5th and sixth graders.

Every school in the county, other than the high school, now only serves two grades. That means a lot of students will be in new schools this year.

“From all the changes in education,” said the school’s principal Sharron Marcus. “And it's important that parent come out, connect with the teachers, connect with us, build those relationships for a better community. The mission for Sumter county school is to graduate all students.”

Kids in Sumter County return to class on Monday.
