A Dougherty County teacher will travel to the Library of Congress in Washington next week.
Dr. Debra Jones was selected from a pool of more than 300 applicants.
She'll get to view millions of digitized historical artifacts and documents.
She especially looks forward to seeing items from the civil rights era.
“Your actually working with the education specialist, the historians. They are bringing in people that have worked with these documents forever. And I'm so excited because this is an opportunity that's not normally afforded every educator,” says Dr. Debra Johnson, with Southside Middle School.
She looks forward to using what she learns to help other educators here teach Georgia studies and civil rights history.
