Red Cross thanks volunteers

Ron Rowe Ron Rowe

The American Red Cross honors volunteers who are leading a lifesaving campaign.

Boy Scout Troop 99 with Mount Zion Baptist Church and Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity were honored for installing free smoke alarms, as part of a national fire safety program.

The first live saved through that national program happened here in Albany.

The fire chief is grateful for the community support of that ongoing campaign.

"It's just like any other education. The more knowledge that you have the better off you are going to be. Knowledge is power, regardless of what the subject matter is. And the more you know about fire safety education and the tips the better off your going to be protecting yourself and others," Albany Fire Chief  Ron Rowe.

He says its work like that this that helps reduce fire fatalities.
