ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Engineering Department of the Dougherty County Public Works Department announced today that two previously closed road sections have been reopened, after improvements.
The section of Gaissert Road, near the Marine Base, between 1510 Gaissert Road and 1612 Gaissert Road has been reopened to thru traffic.
The section of Honeysuckle Drive from Liberty Expressway to Betty's Drive has also been reopened to thru traffic.
Crews elevated the roads to prevent flooding that often happened during heavy rains, putting people in danger.
"It closed off all traffic, which is emergency response vehicles. Ambulances, fire trucks to some areas where we have some major subdivisions. And it was just a non workable situation. That we were able to correct by elevating the roads," said Larry Cook Dougherty Co. Public Works Director.
The road work cost about $200,000, paid for with sales tax revenue.
