VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Time was running out Monday to apply for the numerous board and commission vacancies in Valdosta.

There were a total of 10 vacancies on the public art advisory board, construction board of adjustments and appeals, the CDBG advisory committee, and the tree commission.

The deadline to apply was set for 5 p.m. Wednesday. Some applications had come in as of Monday and the city was hopeful the positions would be filled, but officials were asking anyone interested to still apply.

"It's really important for citizens to have an influence on decisions being made that reflect the quality of life in our community," said Valdosta's Public Information Officer, Semantha Matthews. "We're hopeful that the positions will all be filled. There are ten vacancies right now and they're all in very influential positions."
