Grandmother arrested for leaving child in car

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - 43 year old Anissa Reaves, accused of leaving one of her grandchildren in her hot car, was out of jail as of Friday afternoon.

Valdosta Police said Friday that Reaves turned herself in at the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office around 10:30 a.m. Thursday. She's accused of leaving her 2 year old grandson in her car in the Walmart parking lot Tuesday while she went into the store.

Surveillance video showed the toddler was in the car for about 12 minutes before a passerby saw him and rescued him. Police said Reaves told them that she left the boy in the car because he was asleep and didn't want to wake him.

"There are no further charges pending. The investigation is over at this point and she's just facing the judicial proceeding," said Valdosta Police Department Lt. Kari Williams.

As of Friday, Reaves was charged with misdemeanor reckless conduct.

The child was transported to SGMC to be evaluated for dehydration after being rescued from the car Tuesday and released to his mother's care after treatment at the hospital.
