CORDELE, GA (WALB) - Community activists and city commissioners are at odds over a recent city audit in Cordele.
Commissioners released the 2014 audit last week, more than a year after the fiscal year ended. The audit found almost a million and a half dollars had been overdrawn from the city's account.
Leaders in My Brother's Keeper say the audit shows poor financial work by the city's finance department.
"Citizens of Cordele and crisp county, we need to be aware of that. We need to know what's going on. The city of Cordele, I think they owe it to us as citizens. It's nothing personal against anybody, it's just that an explanation needs to be made," said Isaac Owens of My Brother's Keeper.
We reached out to the city attorney, city manager, and city commissioners but did not receive a call back.
