NORMAN PARK, GA (WALB) - We're getting our first listen to the 911 call a Norman Park woman made after her husband was shot. Seven young men are now charged with murdering him. The victim's family says they are praying for the families of those suspects.
John Hester was shot outside his Normal Park home during an attempted armed robbery. John Hester's frightened wife called 911 the night of July 5th, moments after he was shot.
"He said it was a whole gang," his wife told 911. "They said they were at my son's house, he said they were at my son's house across the road."
"But he still is, he is still breathing, barely, he has some heart trouble," she said.
Hester died later at a hospital. Seven young men are now in the Colquitt County Jail charged with murder.
Daughter Tammy Croy said it's been tough, but they're grateful for the hard work of law enforcement.
"We would just like for the community to know that we all need to pray for each other, and that this was just a senseless crime, everyone's life was changed and we just need to get God back in our lives," she said.
Croy described her dad was a family man. They all live on the same street and spent a lot of time together.
"We were always over at each other's houses, during the day, visiting or working in the yard or whatever needed to be done. My mom and dad were teenagers when they first started dating," she recalled.
This November they would have celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary.
"He was a really special person," Croy added. "He would do anything for his family. He worked on our cars when they broke down."
The son believes the seven young men were attempting to steal tools or some other type of equipment from his property.
