Crooks hit storage units

Ernie Culpepper, Colonial Self Storage Ernie Culpepper, Colonial Self Storage
ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

There has been a rash of break-ins at Storage Unit businesses in Albany, and some owners are increasing security.

Workers at Colonial Self Storage in the 1600 block of Camp Lane discovered 10 units broken into Thursday.

Just last week, seven units were burglarized.   The crook stole TVs, appliances, and furniture.

The owner is now replacing all the locks with round locks that can't be cut with bolt cutters.

"I'm going to change the gate hours a little bit, to where it's not open quite as often.  And the customers have to use their code to get in.  Earlier in the evening.  And we are in the middle of installing a surveillance system," Ernie Culpepper Colonial Self Storage Owner.

Culpepper says other self-storage business owners have also noted  surge in break-ins and are working with police to try to stop them.
