SYCAMORE, GA (WALB) -

An armed man went into the Marathon store near Sycamore off Interstate 75 to rob it, but was shot as he left by an armed citizen.

A store patron, Don Rogers, who is a Vietnam veteran, apparently shot the suspect three times in the chest.

The clerk who was on duty, Hardeep Benipal, said that Rogers' actions saved his life.

The robber, who was later identified as 18-year-old Devin Burton got into a car driven by 17-year-old Marleigh Agner, and traveled down Denham Road, but soon stopped at a house because of his wounds.

Turner County Sheriff’s deputies and EMTs responded.

Burton was flown to a hospital for treatment and listed in critical condition.

Sheriff Andy Hester said he was shot several times, and that Agner, who was not injured, was taken into custody.
