LUMPKIN, GA (WALB) - The murder of Richard Byrd of Stewart County has been solved with the arrest 71 year old James Eggleston of Lumpkin.
Eggleston was found in a hotel room in Wentzville, Missouri. The Wentzville Police Department's SWAT team took Eggleston into custody Thursday night.
The suspect lives on Hall Road in Lumpkin, Georgia.
Byrd was found murdered on Tuesday; he had been assaulted with a sharp edged weapon. GBI agents developed Eggleston as a suspect and tracked him across the country.
Eggleston was arrested without incident, and taken to the St. Charles County Jail where he is awaiting extradition to Stewart County, Georgia, to face murder charges.
