AMERICUS, GA (WALB) - Concerns over citizens' freedom of speech at council meetings continue to come up in Americus.
Some residents said the current ordinance doesn't allow them to voice their opinion in open meetings. Those in attendance can only speak about items on the agenda, and that right to speak must be approved before the meeting.
"We've been designated only 3 minutes or 5. And the 3 minutes got taken away by a second nominational vote so right now we have no voice," said Margo A. Mitchell.
City officials said they plan to take another look at the ordinance but did not announce when that will be.
