Storms leave path of destruction in at least one county

SUMTER CO., GA (WALB) -

Downed trees and limbs are still scattered around Sumter County tonight after strong storms yesterday

Hundreds of residents lost power for at least an hour. Lightning took out two transformers in Plains.

"The local power companies, Georgia power and Sumter EMC, were able to get power back pretty quickly and our public works, and city and county officials and crews were able to get that up and cleaned up pretty rapidly," said Sumter County EMA Director Nigel Poole.

Several trees were knocked down in Americus, but crews quickly cleared the roads.
