Firearm, drugs recovered in Bainbridge arrest

BAINBRIDGE, GA (WALB) - Bainbridge Public Safety officers say members of the community are continuing to help officers get drugs off the streets.

Officers arrested Derrick Smart and Lance Washington earlier this week after a caller told investigators that four men tried to sell drugs in a store parking lot. When officers responded to the area, Smart ran away, leaving behind a small pistol. He was caught and arrested.

Washington was taken in after officers found seven small bags of drugs.

"He stated that six bags contained powdered cocaine and one bag contained Molly. He stated that he didn't want to get any of the other guys in trouble.  He said they were his drugs and he was going to take responsibility for it," said Captain Mark Esquivel  Bainbridge Public Safety.
Washington is facing drug possession charges with intent to distribute, while Smart is charged with obstruction, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
