Southwest Public Health District works with CDC to stop smoking

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Southwest Public Health District is now teaming up with the CDC to try to convince you not to smoke.

The CDC launched its "Tips from Former Smokers" campaign in 2012.

It features stories of people living with serious tobacco-related diseases or disabilities.
9 out of 10 lung cancer cases are caused by tobacco use.

“What we're trying to do is just let people know about the harms of tobacco here and also we want to let them know about resources that we provide to quit smoking if they choose to do so. If they desire to quit using tobacco,” said Ebonee Kirkwood, Tobacco Prevention Coordinator.

The campaign will run until late August.
