ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Dougherty County School system is moving forward with some new changes to its "1 to 1" technology initiative.
They planned to give tablets to every student, but after studying a pilot program at several schools last year, officials decided laptops fit better for middle and high school students who do more typing.
"We methodically and systematically went about doing the pilot implementation so that we could control things a little better, get a little better handle on it and avoid some of the mistakes that some of our counterparts in the rest of the country have done trying to do this," explained John Sumner with Dougherty County Schools.
Sumner says the switch will actually save money.
The goal is to have all 16,000 students with a tablet or laptop by the end of the school year.
