CORDELE, GA (WALB) - Watermelon farmers say intense heat may shorten their season.
Many of the melons are blistering in the fields before farmers can pick them.
The farmers market in Cordele is considerably less busy then at this time last year.
The decrease in supply has had a little bit of a positive impact on them.
"Prices held for the most part. And now that the supply is shorter, The price has really picked up a lot. So that's helped on that end. It makes up for some of the loss you've gotten with the heat and all," said Mcguinty.
Mcguinty says his biggest watermelon of the year tipped the scales at 54 pounds.
