One arrested, trucker cited after tanker rolls over

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The driver of a tanker truck that overturned near Acree Sunday is now out of the hospital, and is cited for the crash.

Dougherty County Police cited 46-year-old Michael Gadson of Waycross with failure to maintain lane.

Gadson told officers about 6:50 Sunday morning he drove the Fuel South gasoline tanker onto the warning strips on Sylvester Road and lost control trying to get back on the road.

The eastbound lanes were shut down for about eight hours while the tanker, leaking gasoline, was drained and removed.

"The amount of gallons is undetermined right now, because they are going to take the truck back to the terminal and weigh it.  And look at the stops that the driver made," Asst. Chief Rubin Jordan, Albany Fire Department.

One home was evacuated during the dangerous gasoline removal, and one man was arrested for obstruction for refusing to obey officers' orders as they blocked the roads.
