Ben Hill County has new transportation

FITZGERALD, GA (WALB) -

The county kicked off its new transit system Monday.     People can now use the point to point service if they call within 24 hours.    

County officials say that they've been looking forward to this for a long time, and they hope people start using it right away.

"Now they'll be able to get to Walmart if they don't have a vehicle, if they have somebody that can drive them. Now they will be able to call make a reservation get to Walmart, go wherever they need to go that's with in the county," said Frank Field, Ben Hill County Manager.      

The County says that if the program is successful they will try to create a county to county transfer system.

    We're hearing a warning from law enforcement and car experts who said taking care of your car should be a top priority for this summer. They said staying under your hood all summer long checking things like your oil, fluids, and tires, will keep you safely on the roadways instead of broke down alongside a highway.
