Sleepy driving blamed for early morning I-75 crash
Falling asleep behind the wheel was being blamed Monday afternoon for a crash that shut down two lanes of I-75 in Lowndes County Monday morning.
Around 4:30 a.m., 33 year-old Demerrill Jones, of Atlanta, fell asleep as he was driving his Ford Excursion Northbound near the 9 mile marker, according to GSP.
Jones went into the median, hit the guardrail, and then flipped several times. Three others were in the car with Jones and no one was wearing seat belts.
All four were taken to SGMC.
A Jeep Cherokee hit driven by Ryan Williams, of Lithonia, hit Jones' SUV. Four people were also in the Jeep and one person was hurt.
Monday afternoon, Jones was being charged with failure to maintain lane and a seat belt violation.
