Details still sketchy in Lanier Co. shooting, standoff

The Lanier County Sheriff's Office was still trying to figure out Monday exactly what happened during a shooting and standoff early Friday morning.

Only WALB was there as the standoff unfolded. Around 3 a.m., gunfire erupted inside 19 Thigpen Circle. When officers arrived, gunfire could still be heard so other agencies were called in to help clear the home and secure the area.

23 year old Eddie Flournah, Jr. was shot and taken to SGMC in Valdosta where he remained as of 3:30 p.m. Monday.

"It's indeterminate at this time as to when we'll make an arrest or if an arrest will be made in the case," said Lanier County Sheriff's Office Investigator Larry Singletary. "We just don't know, it's a little too early to tell. We're still tryin' to finish our interviews and give the public time to respond with information they have as well."

The home's owner, Alvetta Kelly, told WALB Friday morning that over the past three weeks someone had been posting on Facebook that they would pay to have her and her son, Eddie Flournah, Jr., killed because of the $5 million lottery jackpot Flournah, Jr. won in March.
