Albany is blessed to have institutions of higher learning. Not just for educating our citizens, but also for the economic benefit they generate. A recent report from the University System of Georgia showed that Albany State University generated over a hundred and forty million dollars' worth of total economic impact in our area. This economic engine was responsible for over eighteen hundred jobs in the nine counties surrounding Dougherty. Albany State's important medical research also seeks to improve the human condition. Prostate and breast cancer research, water policy research, and STEM, or science and technology education are key to helping people live better lives. All are areas of advanced study at ASU. We salute the work done at Albany State, and the entire region benefits from the science, and the monetary impact of this institution.
