ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Albany city officials are waiting to find out from the DOT when the Broad Avenue Bridge will be finished so they can plan an opening ceremony.
They are forming a committee to work on the event.
Officials at the Convention and Visitors Bureau hope a big crowd will join in the celebration." It will be a great opportunity for the community to come out, support the bridge opening. It'll take people back into the heart of downtown and the celebration itself will just be a good time for the community to come together," said Rashelle Beasley, Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The old bridge was closed more than six years ago then torn down because of structural problems.
The new bridge is supposed to open next month though the DOT hasn't responded to our requests for an update.
